Dr. Charles M. Barrett Memorial Scholarship

This fund was created by Mrs. May Belle Barrett and John Barrett in loving memory of their late husband and father, Dr. Charles M. Barrett, who died in 1989. Dr. Barrett was a 1934 graduate of Xavier University where he was an outstanding student and athlete. He was a pioneer in the treatment of cancer. The Barrett Center at University Hospital in Cincinnati is named in his honor. He also served for many years as the president of Western Southern Life Insurance Company in Cincinnati, an unusual duty for a physician, but one which he handled in excellent fashion. Mrs. Barrett passed away in 2007. This scholarship is to be awarded to local students of Irish American ancestry or to local students of German American ancestry. Legacy Scholarship list.
