Legion of Honor Endowed Scholarship
Created by Xavier graduates Roger Thesing, Eugene Otting, Stephen Baily and Larry Cox in 2011. The Legion of Honor award was given annually to the football team member who has shown outstanding sportsmanship, team spirit and athletic ability. The award was given annually from 1900 through 1973 to a total of 82 men, including the four founders of this scholarship (no award given during WWII). Xavier’s football program was disbanded in 1973 due to cost concerns. Awarded to a male or female student athlete in their junior year for their senior year; or to a senior who will continue at Xavier for graduate school. Anyone who plays an intercollegiate sport is eligible. Outstanding athlete in their respective sport as nominated by the coaches. Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.Demonstrated good character and leadership. Financial need is used as a tie-breaker.
